Personal Branding - Logo

After drawing some very bad drawings of logos, I picked my favourite design which is shown below. I Think this logo greatly represents me because I have a big passion for butterflies and it also shows my initials. The "R" is shown backwards to create an incomplete butterfly - This shows I still have lots to learn and still need time to grow.

After picking this design I decided to draw some slightly better drawings around this idea. I really like the first design as it is simple and can be used on websites and will not need much ink when printing.

Personal Branding

Knowing it will be very difficult to find a job after I have left University, I need to make sure I have strong personal branding to make sure I get noticed. Not only am I tyring to get the best grades at university to find a good job but I am also competing with many other students to get a job. In order to get noticed and look impressive I need to work on my personal branding to make sure people recognise who I am.

I started looking into designs for a personal logo. I wanted to explore different patterns and colours using my name and what I do.

I started by looking into the design of the logo. I didn't just want my name to be displayed in fancy font, I want the logo to be a metaphor for who I am and what I like. I started by drawing some designs shown below.

Research Continued

While in the town in Uckfield I visited a small village called Lewes which is known to have many antique and unique shops. They were very amazing and sol some pretty unusual things. The shops were laid out in a very peculiar way because it looked like an old museum or someones house from the 1990's. Some of the pictures of these antique shops are shown below.

Some Ideas and Research

Over the weekend I took a trip to Lewes and Uckfield in Sussex. I stayed in an old manor house called Pilgrim Hall. During my stay, I was inspired by many patterns, textures, materials, exhibitions, layouts and shops. I took many pictures everywhere I went to document things I saw and inspired me to create my own ideas and projects. Just a few of the main pictures I took are shown below:

The pictures shown above show a small exhibition which I found based on landscape photography and the photographer was Jonathan Close. This was a very basic exhibition but it had a running theme and looked effective.

The picture below shows some more of the features in and around the manor house that I stayed in. The ceilings had some amazing textures and patterns throughout the building. The chandeliers in the main hallway looked beautiful as well. I loved the glass and reflection of the lights.

The pictures below some more of the features in and around the building which I thought were quite inspiring. The picture of the left shows an old wooden swing which I found in the deserted gardens surrounding the building. It looked like it holds many memories. The picture on the right shows the grand fireplace in the main hallway which was often lit for warmth. I liked the features around the fireplace as they were all original wooden features and carvings.

The whole building was full of old wooden carvings which I found very interesting. The two pictures shown below show two pieces of furniture in the house which were made out of wooden carvings. The picture on the left was a small round table which did have a layer of glass over the top of it. I took the glass off to take this picture. The picture on the right shows an old fashioned cabinet with wooden carvings.

Initial Thoughts

After hearing about the project and what will be achieved at the end of this semester, I am really excited about the tasks ahead. I am looking forward to being able to put my organisational skills and creative skills into practice to achieve an exhibition at the end of it.

I am also looking forward to being apart of an exhibition because I have never been apart of one before. This will give me the fantastic opportunity of being able to show off some of my work and things I have created and made over the past three years while at University. I am also looking forward to being able to be apart of something special involving many other people who are interested int he same thing. Hopefully everyone will be able to successfully work together to create an interesting and popular exhibition.

I will learn a lot from this project because I will be able to learn the importance of team work and how to organise an event through fundraising, research, advertising and group efforts.
